Parts of a
Windmill
|
| |
|
| |
Introduction:
Fossil fuels such
as oil and coal are nonrenewable, that is, they
draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle,
becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging
to retrieve. In contrast, renewable energy
resources – such as wind and solar energy – are
constantly replenished and will never run out.
Most renewable energy comes either directly or
indirectly from the sun. Wind Turbines have a long
history and they date back to the ancient times.
They have been used through history and they are still
in the process of development. Windmills may be used to
do a work such as grinding grain into flour or pumping
water out of a water well. They may also be used to
create electricity. |
 |
In this project we will study the
parts of a windmill and make a model of a windmill. |
| |
Material
and instructions:
Making a model of a
windmill is a good way to learn about the windmill parts. You
may also use your model to do some additional experiments and
see how much wind power can be converted to work in your
windmill. When you select this project, you can also study
questions such as:
- Which blade variables have
the greatest affect on windmill efficiency?
- What is the effect of wind
speed on energy production of a windmill?
