How Hard Are
Various Types of Rocks and Minerals?
|
| |
|
| |
Introduction
Some minerals are so soft that they are being used as
baby powder and an additive for creams and cosmetics.
Some others are so hard that they are being used as
abrasives in making sandpapers and grinding wheels.
Hardness is one of the important physical properties of
minerals and it is sometimes used as a way to identify
minerals. |

Material and instructions
Conduct research and
run experiments concerning the hardness of minerals that you can
find. Collect some minerals, test their hardness and try to use
the hardness as a factor that helps you to identify that
mineral. Your report must explain how the hardness is being
tested and describe some of the applications of minerals with
certain hardness. |
