What is the Effect of Sugar Water on a Plants Growth?

Introduction: Plants need water, light, air and nutrients to grow.  So what happens if we give sugar water to plants? Does it help the plant to grow more? Or will it hurt the plant and disable it's potential of making it's own food? This is the subject of our project and we are going to perform some experiments to find out.
